Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey
Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey
Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey comes from reliable Gangi family beekeepers. It is produced in the Madonie Mountains. It has an amber color with a spicy forest smell. This honey has a delicious taste with caramel touches and is slightly spicy to the throat. This excellent quality honey was recently classified as one of the best honey in Italy. This honey is from Burgos, where the hives are anchored in a natural paradise away from pesticides and substances harmful to bees that result in very particular and high-quality honey.
This honey is 100% organic, without toxins, without transgenic pollens, and without air pollution. It is raw honey whose extraction process is pure. No non-organic elements have been introduced by the farmers to the bees in these hives. It is stored at room temperature.
One of the contributions that can be obtained from honey is its high quantity of antioxidants. It provides vitamins such as B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and C, and some minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, sodium, sulphur, chlorine and phosphate.
Taste and appearance
Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey is amber in color with a pronounced taste. It is crystallized, except when it is purchased directly from the producer shortly after harvesting when it is still in a fluid state.
In the crystallized form, it shows a uniform and pasty mass with fine grains. The perfume is delicate, it smells of flowers and also some hints of freshly harvested hay. The flavor is equally delicate, sweet with a slightly unripe aftertaste. It is the honey of athletes par excellence because it contains high-quality fructose and numerous trace elements, such as zinc, copper, magnesium, iron, manganese. It is recommended to dissolve two beautiful spoons this honey in a cup of water that is not too hot, so as not to damage the honey and preserve all its natural properties,
Composition
Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey is a viscous sometimes crystallized, consisting mainly fructose (fruit sugar, 27 to 44 %) and glucose (dextrose, 22 to 41 %) and water (15 to 21 %, heather honey up to 23 %). Fructose usually outweighs glucose: on average, it contains about 38 % fructose and 30 % glucose. Besides, the honey contains small quantities of sucrose, maltose, Melezitose oligosaccharides, pollen, materials, proteins, enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, coloring and flavor materials. The density of honey is about 1.4 kg/l, depending on the water content.
The nourish-physiological value of the honey results primarily from the high sugar content, besides from the contained minerals and enzymes. Vitamins are normally not present in significant concentration.
The relatively long shelf life of Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey is due to its high sugar content and low water content, which prevent bacteria and other microorganisms (e.g. yeasts) from multiplying by inhibiting them osmotically. The color of honey can vary from white to light yellow, beige, brown and green-black. The taste depends on the flowers visited or the honeydew collected. The consistency of honey ranges from fluid to creamy to firm.
During longer storage, liquid Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey can crystallize and thus become solid; however, the fructose-glucose ratio is mainly responsible for the tendency to crystallize. If this ratio is about 1:1, the crystallization takes place within a few days. With honeydew honey, for example, the ratio is about 1.6: 1. This honey remains liquid for months or even years. Crystallized honey can be liquefied again by heating; however, longer storage at high temperatures leads to faster aging, and heating above 40 °C destroys important, nutritionally valuable ingredients.
Sicilian Raw Oregano Honey Use
For millennia it has been used as a natural remedy and science claims that it contains around 200 important elements. It is not only a sweetener: it contains numerous enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and depending on the plant foraged, it changes its composition.Although it has a higher sweetening power than sugar, it has a lower caloric value and this makes it suitable for diets. To derive all these benefits from honey, honey must be eaten raw as heat and pasteurization treatments destroy the precious components of honey.
The Gangi family has dedicated a portion of their organic 80-acre farm to the production of Sicilian Honey Oregonato. The farm is located at the base of the Madonie Mountains, its rugged terrain and peaks is home to the Madonie Regional Natural Park.
The park is a protected reserve helping maintain a balance with wildlife, farming and village traditions. The landscape around the mountains is dotted with giant holly, some hundreds of years old, the rare Mandonie spruce and Sicilian fur, a truly breathtaking backdrop to the farm.
