Fresh Italian Bergamotto
Fresh Italian Bergamotto - 2 pieces
Grown exclusively along a narrow 60-mile strip of Calabria’s Ionian coast, Bergamotto lemons (Citrus bergamia var. Risso) are among the most prized citrus varieties in the world. Known for their highly aromatic peel, bitter-acidic juice, and unique polyphenol content, these rare lemons have been cultivated in Reggio Calabria, Italy, since the 18th century.
Bergamotto lemons are round and slightly pear-shaped, larger than an orange, with a thin, fragrant green skin that turns golden yellow at peak ripeness. The flesh resembles a grapefruit, offering a complex, bold citrus aroma with a tangy, slightly musty flavor. The peel is rich in limonene, an essential oil that gives Bergamotto its signature scent, making it a key ingredient in Earl Grey tea and high-end perfumery.
Unlike any other citrus, Calabrian Bergamotto lemons are uniquely rich in polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that support heart health & blood pressure regulation as well as Reduced inflammation & boost immune support.
The fruit is also packed with vitamin C, potassium, and vitamins B1, B2, and A, making it a powerhouse of nutrition.
Bergamotto lemons are incredibly versatile in both savory and sweet recipes. Their juice and zest can be used in:
- Sorbet, gelato, and citrus-infused desserts
- Marinades for fish, poultry, and seafood
- Dressings, sauces, and vinaigrettes
- Handmade candies, such as Bergamotes de Nancy
- Herbal teas, liqueurs, and refreshing citrus beverages
